Big Mom and her children's book theme

The adventure of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew in the New World is now focused on retrieving their cook, Sanji Vinsmoke, from the camp of Big Mom, one of the four emperors (also known as the rulers of the sea.)

Sanji was forced to go to the Whole Cake Island to wed Big Mom's daughter named Pudding in a tea party ceremony. The event resulted for Luffy's team to go there and infiltrate the island.

The story arcs of One Piece were usually patterned in real-life (mostly from World History) and sometimes in fairy tales. And for the case of this Totland Arc, it may be based mostly on Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Queen of Hearts/Mad Hatter

Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom) represented either/both the Queen of Hearts (due to her extreme selfishness) or/and the Mad Hatter (because of her obsession with tea parties).

Humpty Dumpty

Among those characters working under Big Mom who were introduced so far is Tamago, who has a resemblance to English nursery rhyme character Humpty Dumpty. The said character was also appeared in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass, a sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The Lion and the Rabbit

Aside from the Wonderland theme, in Chapter 823 (beginning of Totland Arc), mini-panels of the story showed some scenes similar to other fairy tales. Big Mom's crew Pekoms, the lion mink, traveled together with Team Whole Cake Island (Luffy, Nami, Chopper, Brook, and Pedro). Nothing shocking about this until Carrot, the rabbit mink showed up in the ship. Carrot and Pekoms mirrored the characters in Panchatantra's "The Lion and the Rabbit." Take note also that Carrot mentioned "Wonderland" as form of her amazement.

Rapunzel, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast

When the Totland archipelago was being introduced in Chapter 827, the panels are showing some creatures who are walking around there. And in one particular panel, three characters from children's book were shown: Rapunzel (the girl creature with a long hair), Ariel (the little mermaid) and Beast (from Beauty and the Beast).

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory/Hansel and Gretel

The Chapter 827 also explained that the Whole Cake Island is being surrounded by 34 other islands. The whole archipelago is called Totland. Cacao Island is one of the 34 islands, and the houses and other food there are made of chocolates and other sweets — similar from chocolate factory in Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the gingerbread house in German fairy tale Hansel and Gretel.

Magic Carpet

The Chapter 827 also introduced Pudding formally. She was shown riding a flying carpet before stepping to the grounds of Cacao Island where Luffy and the rest were exploring. Pudding and her flying carpet seemed similar to the characters in One Thousand and One Nights featuring Aladdin and magic carpet.

Snow White

There's also a children's story shown in Chapter 826. It is when Sanji's sister Reiju kissed Luffy who was nearly dead after eating a poisonous fish. Somewhat similar to the story of Snow White.
